Bank of England to influence GBPCHF exchange rates

Bank of England to influence GBPCHF exchange rates

Tomorrow the monetary policy committee from the Bank of England will vote to decide the interest rate for the upcoming month. No change is expected from 0.5%, therefore I expect the actual decision to be a non event. However shortly after the event Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney will deliver his monetary policy statement which will be followed by a question and answer session. Regular readers will be aware that speeches given by governors of central banks can have a major influence of exchange rates. In recent weeks the UK economy has been performing fairly well. Sterling strengthens against CHF (Daniel Johnson)

Sterling strengthens against CHF (Daniel Johnson)

GBP/CHF in Detail Sterling has made consistent gains against the Swiss Franc over the last week and now sits at a yearly high of 1.34. These gains can be attributed predominantly due to an extremely optimistic UK growth forecast from Lord Jim O’Niell. O’Neill was specifically looking at the possibility of a UK economic recovery post-Brexit. O’Neill stated the damage caused by Brexit could quickly be repaired. O’Neill said ‘That is because some parts of the UK, led by the north west, are actually doing way better than people seem to realise or appreciate.” As well as this crucial fact, the rest of the world

Pound falls against the Swiss Franc after MPC member comments (Tom Holian)

The Pound has fallen vs the Swiss Franc after two of the members of the Monetary Policy Committee spoke yesterday. The reverse happened and combined with Kristin Forbes who has left since the vote and voted for a rate hike the appetite for a rate hike looks to be diminishing very fast. This news has caused the Pound to fall to its lowest level in a
